Is custom software better than off-the-shelf software?

It depends on your situation. Off-the-shelf software is fine if it fits your exact workflow. But most small businesses find they're paying for dozens of features they never use, and they still have to work around the bits that don't quite fit. Why not just use something like Xero, Trello or Square?

Those tools are excellent at what they're designed for. But they're general-purpose platforms.
